Obituary of Gilbert C. Rendon

Our beloved, Gilbert C. Rendon, age 79, was called to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.  He joins in Heaven his beloved wife of 61 years, Ofelia E. Rendon and his son, Michael Rene Rendon.  He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Phillip Ramirez.

Mr. Rendon retired after 34 years as a typesetter for the Austin American Statesman.  He was a Deputy Constable for 17 years in Bexar County and worked training typesetters at Munguia Printers, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas.

As a devoted husband of 61 years and father of eight, he was a wonderful provider and protector. He loved being surrounded with family. His robust strength for justice made him a good captain on earth, while literally taking the shirt off his back for those in need. He had grumpy stripes and a heart of gold. Lived a meaningful life by spoiling grand kids and surrounding himself with friends, from the homeless to the corner store clerk, sitting at the auto parts, chasing ambulances, watching crime stoppers, always eating out and his love for his cat, bleu. The thought of his departure was bittersweet, now he’s with mom.

Mr. Rendon is survived by his loving children, Jose Angel Rendon and wife, Rose Vargas, Ofelia Olivares, Gilbert Rendon, Jr. and wife, Naomi Castillo, Annabelle Rendon and husband, Ken Rodriguez, Ester Trevino and husband, Eddie, Linda Lee Rendon, Georgina Rendon and husband, Ramiro Gonzalez; his brothers, Ruben Rendon and wife, Celia, and Arnold Rendon and wife, Frances; his sister-in-law, Monica; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Private Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2020, with Recitatation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St. Austin, Texas.  Rosary will be live streamed for those who are not able to attend to participate and send their love and support.  This will conclude the services at this time for Mr. Rendon.  

Mr. and Mrs. Rendon will be inurned together at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 10:00 a.m..

Public services will NOT be held.
