Obituary of Johnny Guerra Rios

Please share a memory of Johnny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our Beloved Johnny G. Rios “Juan Prieto, Johnny Ringo, Mexico, 222”, age 79, resident of Austin, was called to our Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 16, 2020. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Beatrice L. Rios and his parents, Porfirio R. Rios & Petra G. Rios.

Johnny is survived by his children, Christine Rios Pribyl, and her husband, Brian, Catherine Rios Krotzer, and her husband, Paul, Janine Rios Padron, and her husband, Felix, Petra Gonzalez, and her husband, Homero, Johnny Rios, Jr., and Megan Rios; his grandchildren, Johnny Christopher, Sloan Marie, Paul Philip, Alexus Briana, Mindy Cindel, Kelly Faith, Johnny Damian and Kendra Beatrice; two Great-Grandchildren, Sterling and Stetson; his siblings, Porfirio G. Rios, Anita Castillo, and her husband, Robert, and his sister Teresa Rios; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.

His daughters stated they saw their father as invincible. Johnny was a lot of things. He was incredibly funny, smart, resourceful, giving, and loving. His family never did without. He was the kind of man that if he saw someone in need he would help, even if it was his last dollar. His family was everything to him. He taught them about having class. Not in the financial way, but in how you carry yourself and how you treat others. He did a lot in his lifetime. He was a Veteran, serving in the Air Force and Army. He played football and ran track. He was also the proud coach of the 222’s. They won a championship back to back for seven years. He boxed and coached boxing at the Pan Am Center. He played a significant role in opening Manor’s first community center and also was the Director there. You could also find Johnny at Manor Downs. He always picked the winning horses. Furthermore, Mr. Rios was a staple in East Austin. He was an original patron of Rabbits, who is his best friend, and Joe’s Bakery. Johnny was EAST AUSTIN and known to many as Johnny G, Juan Pierto, Mexico, Johnny Ringo and 222. He was a dynamic man, who truly did things “his way.” He was a great Dad. He referred to his children as Christine Pribyl #1, Catherine Krotzer, #2 (Cassie), Janine Padron #3 (Fish), Petra Gonzalez #4 (Little Petra) after his mother, and JJ (Son/Chapolene).

These last 5 years you could have seen him riding in one of his limited edition thunderbirds down east 7th street. He loved his cars and he loved to gamble! His favorite season was football season. His numbers hit often, then it would be basketball. His most lucrative season was baseball and the World Series. He would take little weekend trips to Coushatta where he would win there too. Mr. Rios was a WINNER, in every aspect of the word. He won the love of his life, Beatrice. He loved his parents, his beloved grandfather, his sisters and brother. His love for his children was like no other. He also adored all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
