Our beloved Robert G. ?Sport? Martinez, age 61, died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday September 22, 2002. Robert was born on September 27, 1940. He was a lifelong resident of Austin and graduated from Austin High School. His father Augustine Martinez, Sr. and his Brother Joel Martinez preceeded him in death. Robert was a loving and caring Father, Brother, Uncle and Grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include His Beloved Mother; Eloisa G. Martinez, Daughters; Yvonne Olivares, Catherine Terrazas and husband Abel, Yolanda Torres, Elizabeth Esquivel and Jackie Martinez, Son; Andrew Martinez, Brothers; Augustine Martinez, Jr. and wife Dominga, Gilbert Martinez and wife Stephanie, Twin Brother Rudolph Martinez, Sr., and a Sister; Norma Martinez all of Austin. He is also survived by 20 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Recitation of rosary Tuesday 7:30pm at the Mission Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00am at St. Julias Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jamie Mathias will officiate. Committal Service will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Peter Terrazas, Javier Olivares, Rudolph Martinez, Jr., Louis Martinez, Robert Martinez, and Jesse Robles. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Martinez, Jose Angel Esquivel and Rudy Alvarez. The next time you drive by his residence on Fiesta Street you may not see him sitting on his porch but he will forever remain pictured in our minds sitting there and waving greetings to everyone that passes by.
