From one unemployed brother to another, sitting on the banks of the cold springs at Austin, on a fine middle of a hot Summer Wednesday in 2011, drinking cool beers and laughing about where life has taken us and the loves of our lives, you will be sorely missed my dear friend, travel safe and I look forward to seeing you again in another life and I hope we are friends then too!!!
My deepest condolences to all of Ryan's family, I can't fathom your loss. Although most of you don't know me, I knew Ryan well, he was a friend to me for many years, from Cornell to Miami and back home again to Austin. My memories of Ryan are littered alongside good times and will never be forgotten. Lest we forget...….

I can’t think back to my time at Cornell without thinking of Ryan: my first love.
To echo comments and memories that have already been shared: Ryan was warm, kind, and genuine. He had a big heart and a big smile. He was funny when you weren’t expecting it.
A couple of years ago, Ryan came and visited me at my house outside of Boston. We had not having seen each other in about ten years. I was struck by how he was just as sweet, handsome (maybe even more handsome!) and his smile could bring me right back to our freshman year. So thoughtful, he brought a gift for one of my daughters: a pair of Adidas Sambas remembering how I had loved mine back in the day.
He talked about possibly relocating to Boston or Cambridge and we agreed to see each other frequently if and when he did. I am heartsick that we will never get that chance. Rest In Peace my friend, I won’t forget you.

To the extended Duran family – I am heartbroken to hear of Ryan’s death. For those of us who got to know and love Ryan during his time at Cornell, we’ll remember him as a smart, funny, and kind man who was passionate about his family, friends, and community. He was also a hell of a football player, music enthusiast, and gifted writer and activist. I will miss that big handsome grin of his and his even bigger heart. My love to his dad, sisters, and the many nieces and nephews who I know he adored. Rest easy, Ryan.

I am deeply saddened by Ryan's death. I too had the privilege of working for Gonzalo Barrientos off and on from the time of his election to the House until his retirement from the Senate. Naturally the first Duran I met was Rabbit. I first met Ryan when I returned to Gonzalo's Senate staff after an absence and Ryan had already joined the team.
Despite our age difference (he teased me as "the old guy"), I had as much fun interacting with him as I did anyone else on the legislative staff. He was smart, witty, and capable. The time I worked with him was but a few years, but my memories will be long and fond. My sympathies to his Dad and family.

I'm so thankful for all of the great memories I shared with Ryan - Senior Prom, checking out new bands in town, running Town Lake trail, nights out in Austin/Dallas, skydiving in San Marcos, political debates and of course visits to Rabbit's for cold beer. Will always think of his huge smile, endless energy and abundant love for his family, friends and the city of Austin. Rabbit - holding you and the rest of your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I’ll always remember Ryan at Rabbit’s serving customers as we all got together to enjoy an evening of jokes, talk, politics or just enjoy an evening with friends. He always had a smile and a kind word. I saw him about two weeks ago in South Austin and seemed to be doing great. We hugged and wished each other a good evening. Rabbit, I am so sorry for your loss. He is a great loss to me as well. He was such a nice young man, respectful and business-like in his approach to us when we visited.
I’m praying for you and your family at this difficult time. May you be consoled by memories of the good times. May he Rest In Peace with his Mom.

Ryan introduced me to West Texas on a road trip to Terlingua. We ate beef jerky, listened to country music and talked about all the things we wanted to do with our lives. Funniest part of our trip was hiking in Big Bend and the park rangers tell you not to take food in your backpacks due to wild bears. We both agreed to leave the beef jerky in the car. Well about 3 miles in to the hike, Ryan turns, looks at me and smiles as he’s chomping on the beef jerky. All I could think of was the wild bears that were gonna come attack us. We finished the hike and both laughed all the way back to the camp. We always laughed about that hike afterwards. Funny thing is that I never knew how great the outdoors could be and Ryan introduced me to a whole new world of nature. I’ll always remember Ryan as one of the smartest guys I knew. He was like a walking encyclopedia of information. I’ll miss our long wonky talks about politics. Rest In Peace my brotha. And thank you for always being a good friend. Lonnie
