I am sorry to be expressing my sympathy late to Tony Medrano's family. I knew Tony from his years at the Carruth Administrative Center of the Austin Independent School District on West Sixth Street. I served as the Foreign Language Coordinator and thus Tony was a colleague of mine. Tony was so intelligent and yet so down to earth as well. His smile was beautiful; you can see it in his obituary picture. He was a wonderful colleague and all of us who worked with him will miss him greatly.

Coach Medrano, as we fondly refer to as "Drano" was kind, caring, supportive and a great teacher. He took a chance on a softball player and helped me become an All-District Soccer player. Playing for him and our team was some of the best times of my life. I don't know if I would have made it out of high school alive without him and my teammates. I will never forget him.

Tony’s demeanor was infectious, His kindness, Smile, laughter, and love was immediately felt by all Crockett teachers and students as soon as he entered the room. Working alongside of Tony to coordinate special education services and and coaching soccer as well was always a fun and professional experience. We were all fortunate to teach alongside Tony during His tenure at Crockett HS. He was the Ultimate Cougar!
Godspeed Tony,

Coach Medrano will be greatly missed by me. When I was a Senior at Crockett, I was pregnant with my first child, and he was very supportive of me. I remember taking my son up to the school on the day I got out of the hospital when he was born because I knew Coach Medrano and Coach Cooks would be there on a Saturday, and I wanted them to meet Michael. He loved all of the students at Crockett, not just those who had him as a math teacher or as a coach.

I am so sorry for your loss. During my time at Crockett I always was able to go to Tony with any problem or issue for advice. He was always available to colleagues and students to listen or offer a kind word. Tony was a genuine "Teacher" and total professional. This world is a little darker without him in it. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who loved this amazing person.

I worked with Tony at Crockett I well remember this kind young man when he first started teaching. Even though I was older, Tony soon became mr role model in teaching, in how to treat family and friends of all ages and in his positive approach to life.
Tony was always fun and witty. I can still hear his laugh. He loved his family and shared some of he mischief he claims to have worked on his siblings.
I remember his joy with trips to Vegas and actually kept my eyes open to search the crowds for him this Thanksgiving when I got to go there.
You were a big part of my joy when I was a teacher, Tony. Maybe we can solve math strategies again some day when I make my journey to heaven
My condolences to you, Tony’s family. I know you miss him.

I met Tony when I moved to Texas and started teaching at Akins high school and he worked at the district office and provided professional development. Years later I worked with him at the Austin Independent School District as a math specialist. He loved math, math teachers and students. He took great care to design engaging learning experiences for students and professional learning for teachers. I am sorry he had health issues and had to leave something he was passionate about. Such a kind and generous person.

I taught math with Tony at Akins, and he was such a good soul to be around. I will remember him not only for his creativity at math teaching, but for his fun stories of his Las Vegas trips, and how he used math to his benefit.
