Obituary of Hattie Mae Jett

Our beloved Hattie Mae Jett, age 82, was called to heaven on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her husband George Jett; her father, James Nelson King, Sr.; her son, Lonnie Dwayne Jett, Sr.; her brothers, James King, Jr., Travis King, and L.D. King; her sister, Ruthie Mae Grayhouse; her sons-in-law, Terry Sneed, Dave, Sr., and Garland Priest, and her grandson, Davin Thomas.

Hattie was born June 14, 1937, in Elgin, Texas, one of twelve children born to James Nelson King, Sr. and Ocie Mae Denman King. She attended the Rosenwald Rural African American Schools, Kimbro and Littig, in Elgin, Texas. She was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas.  She married George Jett and together they had eight children, eventually settling in Austin, Texas.

Hattie is survived by her mother, Ocie Mae Denman King; her loving children, Shirley Sneed, Betty Jo Akene and her husband, Femmy, Carolyn Elaine Taylor and her husband, Floyd, Georgia Eriyo and her husband, Amadin, Marva Jett, George Milton Jett, Jr. and his wife, Felicia, and Cynthia L. Priest; her sisters, Margie Harris, Evelyn Oregon, and Charles Etta Milligan; her brothers, Arthur King and his wife, Della, Howard King, Leslie B. King of Farmington, New Mexico, and C.L. King of New Orleans, Lousiana;  28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dave Jones, Charles Lee, Willi Jett, Jammal Akene, Tommy Ray King, and Dietrich Felix.  Honorary Pallbearers will Fred Haney, Jhon Jett, Robert Milligan, and Trey Martin.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Tracy Yett for the excellent care she provided to Hattie.  May God bless and keep you and your family.  We are so very grateful to you.

A wake will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2019, at Mission Funeral Home - East Side, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, Texas.  A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Olivet Baptist Church, 1179  San Bernard St., Austin, Texas.  Burial will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
