Obituary of Anita Glass

Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anita Marie Glass passed away the morning of Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Anita was born in Lubbock, Texas to H. M. and Gladys Duty on October 25, 1956. After graduating high school Anita moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. She worked her way through school, supporting herself, and proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in December of 1978.

Anita happened to visit the church that Joe Glass attended and after seeing her he told the pastor he would volunteer to call all the visitors from that Sunday. Well, Joe promptly threw out all the visitor cards except hers and called her up for a date. They were married on June 9, 1979.

Anita enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy and was proud of being a Member of the Mayflower Society, having been a descendant of two Mayflower Pilgrims including Captain Myles Standish. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was a direct descendant of Winslow Turner, who was one of the “Old Eighteen” the group of Texans that fired the “Come and Take it” cannon at the battle of Gonzales. She was also descended from members of Stephen F. Austin’s Old 300 Colony.  She was always happy to talk about genealogy and had recently helped her two grandsons with a family history project for school.

Anita is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 40 years, Joe Glass; her daughter, Shauna; son, Tim and his wife Jaree; son Ethan, and four grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Taylor and Samantha Glass.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, H. M. and Gladys Duty, and two brothers, “Sonny” and Wesley.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Louis Missouri to help find a cure for XLH.

A Memorial Service will be held in Anita's honor on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Bastrop First Assembly of God Church, 809 Pecan St., Bastrop, Texas.
