Obituary of Catarino Arocha

Our beloved father and grandfather, Catarino Arocha, age 89, passed away on November 10, 1999. Catarino was born in Hornsby Bend, Texas on April 30, 1910, to Zaragosa Arocha and Anastasia Porras. Catarino married Reyna Cervantes of Smithville, Texas on December 17, 1934. Catarino always had a happy smile for everyone. Vistors to his home were always invited to share a cup of coffee with him. His friendliness and loving smile will be missed by his family and friends. Catarino farmed all his life, a vocation he truly enjoyed. He took great pride in providing for his family through his farming. He farmed in Hornsby Bend, Hunter?s Bend, Manor, and Pflugerville where he retired.
He is survived by his brother: Elizel Arocha of Austin; two daughters: Mary A. Chapa and Gloria A. Aguilar of Austin; seven sons: Thomas Arocha and wife Beatrice of Austin, Lupe Arocha Sr. and wife Higinia of Austin, Tony Arocha and wife Rosaria of Taylor, Jimmy Arocha and wife Josie of Austin, Catarino Arocha Jr. and wife Janie of Pflugerville, and John Arocha of Waco. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
Catarino is preceded in death by his wife: Reyna, daughter: Angelita Reyna, sisters: Maria Arocha, Juanita Acosta, and Margarita Alba, and brother: Marcello Arocha.
Catarino Arocha was a sixth generation Tejano and was a direct decendant of Don Francisco Arocha and Dona Juana Curbelo, Canary Islanders who founded Villa de San Fernando and who established the first civil municipal government in Texas in 1731, in what is present San Antonio, Texas.
Recitation of rosary will be Thursday, November 11th, at 7:30pm at the Mission Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday , November 12th, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Rev. William Elliott O.M.I. will officate. Burial will follow in Capital Memorial Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eugene A. Chapa Jr., Virginia Keefer , Michael Arocha, Daniel Arocha , Lupe Arocha Jr., and Paul Arocha. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mike Aguilar, Eddie Arocha, and Ricky M. Arocha.
