My Aunt Lena, your beautiful smile will always be remembered, along with your grace and compassion for others. Through your pictures it is plain to see you had a full and exciting life, full of laughter and fun. You left behind many friends, nieces, nephews and your extraordinary children. All of your children carry your special traits: kindness, grace, understanding and goodness. You did an excellent job with your time on this earth and I thank you for being a wonderful Aunt and a loving sister to my father, Pete, who loved you very much. You will be forever missed - please give my father a hug when you are reunited I love you Aunt Lena, Ronnie Ann Martinez

To Lena’s family and friends ...
I’ll start by quoting an old African proverb “every time an old person dies a library burns down” meaning all the memories and knowledge will be lost ... barring those that have been shared. For me this is the end of an era ... Lena is the last of the old crew (children of the 20s). Rocker ,Hoyt, Lena, B and so many others that have lived so fondly in my memories of the best of times gone by and have given me the blueprint of what having a party and having friends over is supposed to be. I will keep with me until my dying day and hopefully pass on to my own kids what it was like to live through those times with all the laughs and smiles hugs and ease that was what it was. I can only hope that my kids and future grandkids will remember our gatherings or parties with the same heart warming fondness that ALL of the friends of my grandparents who became my family have brought me. I hope you all remember those times and Lena and fondly as I do. From Robert George

With a heavy heart and warm appreciation for a life well-lived, I think of the close relationship between Lena and Rocker, Ben and Bea, and Paul and Virgie, not only in business but in life--their spiritual connection through Cristo Rey, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and St Peter, their summer outings at Bull Creek, and their weekend barbecues. They were leaders in their communities of East and South Austin. (P.S. We have one of Lena's lovely paintings.)

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to you. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are never alone. You can find comfort from God's Word, the Bible, knowing that He is near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit (Psalms 34:18). Please accept my deepest sympathies.

My beautiful Madrina Lena, I have wonderful memories of you & Rocker & all the girls & Lil Rocker & the summer fun at Bull Creek. Lena & Rocker were some of the very first friends my mom & Dad had when we moved to Austin from Houston back in 1959. The Verastique family will always hold a special place in my heart & The Villasenor’s family heart. Rest in eternal peace.

I’m sorry for the loss of your beloved Lena, the loss of a close loved one is a heartbreaking experience. In the Bible we find a promise for those who have fallen asleep in death. In John 5:28 it states,” Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” When these words come true we will be able to enjoy life with our beloved ones who have died and we will live under different circumstances than we do now (Revelation 21:4)

Lena was a class act from my childhood memory. I always remember how she would be ready when Rocker would be walking in the door. I loved spending times in the Verastique home. Lena was one of the women I admired as a child.
