Obituary of Fortunato Bernal Jr.

Our Beloved Fortunato “Shorty” Bernal Jr., age 81, of Austin, Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was born on December 23,1937 in Laredo, Texas.

Fortunato worked as a Foreman/Operator at H&H Construction and retired after 45 yrs of service.

Fortunato was preceded in death by his parents Fortunato Sr. and Felicita Bernal; beloved wife, Maria de Jesus Collazo Bernal; sister, San JuanaTellez; and brothers, Justino Bernal Sr. and Margarito Bernal. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Genara Contreras Bernal; his children, Jose Alberto Bernal (Mary), Maria Felicitas Rodriguez (Juan), Sylvia Casarez (Steve), Rogelio Bernal (Rhonda), Johnny Bernal (Susan), Jose Bernal (Jennifer), and Fortunato Bernal III (Jessica); step-children: Felipe, Gerardo, Pedro and Leticia Contreras; 15 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great Great-Grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Mission Funeral Home – South Side 6204 South First St., Austin, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Hernandez-Lopez & Sons Funeral Chapel; 800 Boston Street; Laredo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1718 San Jorge Ave; Laredo, TX 78040. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
