Obituary of Steve Lopez

Please share a memory of Steve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our Beloved Steve Lopez, age 88, of Austin, Texas was called Home by our Heavenly Father on January 10, 2019, with his loving family by his side.

Steve was born on April 5, 1930 in Ganado, Texas to Esteban and Otila Lopez.  He grew up in Austin, Texas. As a young man, he was drafted into the Army National Guard where he served his country both during and after the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in October 1985, Sergeant First Class. He was fully retired from the military in April 1990 after faithfully serving his country for 31 years.  Steve also worked as a Maintenance Foreman for Camp Mabry for 30 years and was retired from the State of Texas in May 1987. After retirement, Steve spent his time attending weekly Bible Study with family and friends.  He would regularly visit and check on family members and was always ready and willing to help his family and friends with whatever they needed whether it was solving a plumbing issue or providing help with a monetary need.  Steve also took the time to teach his children and grandchildren the importance of saving their money just as he was taught, as a child by his third grade teacher. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Esteban and Otila Lopez, brothers, Eliseo (Alex), Frank, Edward, Ezekiel, Enrique (Henry) and Elias Lopez; sisters, Eloisa and Enoe Lopez; infant daughter Mary Helen Lopez; step-sons Robert Ruben Garza, Anthony Ruiz, Gilbert Ruiz, James (Jimmy) Ruiz and Louis (Louie) Ruiz.
