Obituary of Antonio Soza

Antonio (Tony) Leonel Soza, age, 89, was called to the arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Tony was the son of Alvino and Estanislada Soza.

He is survived by daughters Nanette Yvonne Sookiasian (husband Rick), and Nelda Edna Soza; granddaughter Victoria Ann Sookiasian, grandson Daniel Antonio Soza; great-granddaughters Eliana and Adelyn Soza and daughter-in-law Imelda Soza.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ella (2017); and son Edward Lee (2008).

Tony was born on January 17, 1929 in Escobares, Starr County, Texas. He was the youngest of the family, with eight older sisters. He was raised with a close, supportive family and worked hard in helping his family with their ranch. His family inspired and motivated him to get a good education and a better life. He graduated from Rio Grande City High School, Rio Grande City, Texas.

On June 5, 1947, at the age of 18, Tony joined the United States Air Force. He married his school mate and dear friend, Ella on June 28, 1953. Since Tony was serving in the Armed Forces at the time, they were stationed in different places throughout the United States and abroad. Tony and Ella raised three children. He was deeply devoted to them and was always involved in their education and extracurricular activities. Tony was a prime example of a devoted father, giving his time, energy and attention to caring for his family. He was equally devoted to his faith. While at different locations, he served in the Roman Catholic Ministries and taught children's catechism classes.

In 1973, after twenty-six years in the Armed Forces, Austin, Texas because the family home. Living in Austin, Tony went on to get his Bachelor of Business degree from St. Edwards University. He was employed in Federal Civil Service, working at the Austin Data Automation Center where he retired in 1997. Tony enjoyed tending to horses and cows at a small ranch in Elroy, Texas. He loved being involved in his grandchildren and great granchildren's family activities.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas 78745. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2018, at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W, Oltorf St. Austin, Texas 78704. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
