Obituary of Daniel Perez Saldaña, Sr.

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved Daniel "Barro" Perez Saldaña, Sr., age 84, resident of East Austin passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, May 21, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Rebecca; his three sons, Johnny Saldaña, Ernest Saldaña, and Bobby Saldaña; his parents, Juan Zuniga Saldaña and Maria "Santitos" Perez Saldaña; his sister, Librada Saldaña, and his brothers-in-law, Enoch Lopez, Eddie Cohorst;, and Wilmer Franco.  Mr. Saldaña proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army and was one of a fortunate few stationed in Greenland.  Upon his return from Greenland, he married the love of his life, 15 at the time, whom he fondly called "Rebekita."

He leaves behind his nine children, Daniel Saldaña, Jr., Denise Guerrero and her husband, Jose, Mary Bounds and her husband, Eric, Juanita S. Garza and her husband, Erasmo, Cruz Saldaña, Andrew Saldaña, David Saldaña, Mark Saldaña and his wife, Cody, and John Anthony Saldaña; his sisters, Eva Lopez, Mary Cohorst, and Noemi Franco; his brothers, Moses P. Saldaña, Sr. and his wife, Anna Maria, and John Saldaña; 33 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Mr. Saldaña was a long time Methodist with whom it is attributed to his mother Maria's legacy as one of the founders of the first Protestant church serving the Mexican community, formally known as Metodista Unida Emmanuel, many, many years ago.  Emmanuel United Methodist Church now has an historical marker at Jackson Hall commerating it's historical religious status.  His father was a laborer who helped build the formation of Longhorn Cavern State Park in Burnet.

He loved the country life and the hard work that came with it, and provided for his family well through his labors.  He was an advocate for justice but always merciful.  Everyone was equal in his eyes.  Daniel will be greatly missed by all that knew him, none more so than his family.

The Saldaña family would like to thank all the medical staff at Dell Seton Medical Center at UT for their attentive care to Mr. Saldaña.
