Obituary of Mary R. (Maria Elena Rivera) Perez

Our beloved Mary R. Perez (Maria Elena Rivera), age 76, resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pete Perez; her parents, Fidel Rivera and Josefa Figuora Rivera; her siblings Clemente, Enrique, and Ester Rivera.  

Mary was born on February 15, 1941 to Fidel and Josefa Figuora Rivera in McFaddin, Texas. She married Pete Perez and they became the proprietors of Pete's Bar on 6th Street, remaining so for over 40 years.  Mary was a lifetime resident of East Austin, living on Holly Street, prior to moving to Kyle.

She retired from the State of Texas, where she had the honor of meeting several of our state's dignitaries like Former Governor Ann Richard, Former Mayor Carole Keeton-Strayhorn, and Congressman Lloyd Doggett to name a few.  Mary had a loving heart where she was known to give you the shirt off her back. Her family was very dear to her, as was the family home on Montopolis.  As a proprietor of Pete's Bar, she knew everyone by name, where they sat and what their beverage of choice was.  She will be truly missed by all.  May she Rest in Peace.

Mary is survived by her son, Oscar Obregon; her granddaughter and primary care giver for the last 4 years, Crystal Camarena; her great grandchildren, Haley and Samuel Ybarra; and her siblings, Gloria Rivera Martinez and Alex Rivera. 

The family would like to express their appreciation to Seton Hospital, Christopher House, and Cindy Gonzales for their dedication in care for Mrs. Perez.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1206 East Ninth St., Austin, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will follow Rosary at 11:00 a.m.that same day at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Committal will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
