Obituary of Olga Emma Garcia

Our Beloved Olga Emma Garcia, age 54, of Austin, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She passed away peacefully at the Seton Medical Center Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Olga was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico in 1963. She then lived in San Antonio, Edinburg, and finally settling in Austin, Texas. She attended Porter Junior High School and then later graduated from Crockett High School in 1981. She worked for the US Treasury Department for 30+ years. She then became a Realtor. Olga was active at San Jose Catholic Church for many years, teaching Sunday School and volunteering in the Kitchen Hall after masses and at Jamaicas. She was a Baptism Godparent to more than a dozen children. She was also a member of the APD Citizen Policy Academy. She was very involved in her son's school's Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) at St. Elmo Elementary, Porter Middle School and Crockett High School, serving as President numerous times. Olga enjoyed giving back to her community by volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Coats for Kids, Brown Santa and Operation Blue Santa. 

She was preceded in death by her father Andres Garcia and her grandparents Viviano Morales, Cipriana Esparza, Salvador Sosa, Valentine Garcia, and Francisca Gutierrez.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years Ramon Alvarado; loving son Raymond Alexander; mother, Herlinda Rerucha; step-father Richard Rerucha; siblings, Manuel Garcia, Isabel (Casey) Castañeda, Daniel (Marisol) Rerucha, Oscar Rerucha, and Anthony (Vanessa) Rerucha; mother-in-law Carolina Barcenas; brother-in-law Felipe Alvarado and family; sister-in-law Maricela Martinez and family; brother-in-law Enrique Alvarado; sister-in-law Carolina Barcenas; and brother-in-law Jose Luis Alvarado and family; and maternal aunts, Maria del Refugio Sosa, Celia Sosa and Enedina Sosa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Mission Funeral Home – South Side, 6204 South First Street, Austin, Texas 78745.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest, Austin, Texas 78704.

This will conclude services. Interment will be private at a later date.
