Obituary of Joe Z. Castañeda
Our Beloved Joe Z. Castañeda, age 94, resident of East Side Austin and Marble Falls, Texas, was called to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Mr. Castañeda proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 plus years, Mary Castañeda; his parents, Casimiro and Inez Castañeda; his children, Jesse Castañeda and Bettina Castañeda; his siblings, Jesse Castañeda, Mary Ribera and her husband, David, Rose Besa and her husband, Joe, Lupe Ribera and her husband, Ciriaco “CR”, Concha Carmona, and his brother-in-law, Mike Montoya.
Joe is survived by his loving children, Joey (Maggie), Richard, Ronnie (Sylvia), Mike (Oralia), Renee (Roy) Ramirez, Gerald (Cindy), Jaime “JJ”, Danielle (Angel) Ramirez, and Anthony Castañeda; his siblings, Manuel (Rachel) Castañeda, and Doris Montoya; 23 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Before there were the Carmonas, before there were Montoyas, and before their were Riberas, there was Castañedas. The first line of these great athlete families was Joe Castañeda. He was the first Castañeda Marble Falls Mustang and in 1939, he was part of the very first team to win a district title. Joe was also East Side Austin through and through, where he married and raised his family. He was a business owner, specializing in upholstery. The East Side was his home and he frequented all the local bars, always ready for the next round to be “on Joe.” In his honor, please enjoy a cold beer to the memory of a wonderful member of our community.
The children of Joe Z. Castañeda would like to offer a very special thank you to their brother, Mike and his wife, Oralia for their many years of dedicated care and devotion to our daddy. Thank you so much, brother!
