Thank you for sharing John with the rest of our community and everyone else who was fortunate enough to have met John in person.
He was my mentor, my friend, and practically like a father to me.
He was always there to encourage me, support me during difficult times and guide in a direction which would be best for me.
John provided an amazing opportunity to me when he hired me in 84' new to Austin and totally green to politics, let alone Austin politics. Yet he had faith in me that I could do the job.
My husband have John and your family in our prayers.
I will remember his wonderful smile and pointing at me, and telling me, You Can Do Better.....
With Our total Respect and Love for John,
Amelia

John, we discovered that we knew so many of the same people, all with the same theme of helping to advance the acceptance of minorities. Working with you for over 20 years allowed us to become not just come workers but dear friends. I will miss you John but I know you are happy with your friends and family in heaven. Love you

My prayers go out to the Trevino family and all Johnny's friends. I also served with Dave Keene as a VISTA volunteer in the early 1970's under Johnny's leadership. We were all devoted to him and appreciated all that he taught us, contributing not only to his community but to building character in all of us. My heart goes out to Connie in particular.

I first met Johnny when I was a student at UT and part of the Mexican American Student Organization. We got very involved in his political campaigns and later we continued a friendship when I became a UT faculty member and Director of the Center for Mexican America Studies, and he joined the UT staff. Along with Gonzalo and Richard, he was always very supportive of Mexican American affairs on the campus. Austin and Mexican America have lost a great leader.

John inspired me as a VISTA Volunteer in the 1970's to spend a career working in low-income housing. We VISTAs loved "JT" for his support, good humor, charm and incredible resourcefulness. He had the intelligence, grace and calmness to deal with all kinds of issues, and was like a best friend to everyone. As someone who unified people from all backgrounds, his elections to the City Council were deserving and inspirational. I will always remember his quick smile, laugh, and suggestions to "go to Joe's for a quick cup of coffee." (The quick cup lasted awhile, especially with Mike, Gonzalo, Gabe, Crow and friends there!)
My deepest sympathy goes out to Connie and her family, and my great thanks to JT for the happiness and great memories you brought me and all of us. God bless you.

I was lucky to work in the same office here at UT for the last few years with John. He was such a kind, gentle, funny man and my-oh-my could he tell a story!
John started a special tradition by bringing each of us in the office little trinkets from his travels to Barcelona and Mexico. We have them all on our desks and will always remember John for his thoughtful gestures. I also think he remembered the name of every single person he ever met! We will miss you John!

It was a high honor for me to include him in my 2014 book about the Montopolis neighborhood. I last saw him at the dedication of the display at the IDEA Allan campus about two months ago and we had the chance to chat. His sense of humor, charm and deep historical perspective were all intact. I shall cherish his words to me that day, and will continue to reflect upon their meaning in my own community service.
My heartfelt condolences to you all.

Mr Trevino was
truly an Austin icon.
I remember his involvement in assuring we had medical care services for the Eeast Austin residents. He was very active in bringing in
the Model Cities programs As well.
Which offered many young people an opportunity to train for better paying jobs and obtaining higher education.
Thank you Mr Trvinio for an opportunity that l was able to take advantage of.

John was an amazing man. I learned so much about humility and kindness from him. If John met you, you were his friend from that date forward. We worked beside each other each holiday season and provided low income families with the necessary ingredients to enjoy a holiday meal. He brought his posse of close friends, humor, and his never ending energy. He is and will be so missed.
He's walking with God now.

My Big Brother Airborne! I will miss you, your guidance, ever present smile and council. Thank you for your service to the City of Austin and also being Instrumental and one of the five founders of the Hispanic Contractors Association that first day upstairs at Limons Bakery with us. It was with your guidance, support and belief in us that the organization still flourishes today. I will miss running into you from time to time and hearing that booming "AIRBORNE!" from across the room and knowing you were there. May the Great Jump Master in the sky welcome you with open arms and the spread of your jump wings carry you home.
My Condolences to your family and loved ones my friend!....Regards "Mijo Airborne!"
