Obituary
Obituary of Arthur Salas Santana, Sr.
Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Arthur Santana, Sr., age 91, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Mr. Santana was a WWII, U.S. Navy Veteran, serving honorably from Dec. 1943 to May 1946.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Santos and Clara Santana; his daughter, Irma Santana; granddaughter, Lisa Santana; and his brothers, Oswaldo Santana and Sam Santa Ana.
Arthur, Sr. is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Josephine Reyes Santana; sons, Arthur Santana, Jr. and his wife, Janey, and Ben Santana and his wife, Renee; grandchildren, Audrey Rodriguez and her husband, Travis, Mindy Martinez and her fiancé, Felipe, Anthony Bonciolini and fiancé Ashley, Sarah Santana; Elizabeth Mendez, and Chris Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Brianna Bonciolini, T.J. Hogberg, and Geno Bonciolini; his sister, Lupe Santana Gaytan; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Although born in Bastrop, Arthur lived throughout his life in East Austin; baptized at Our Lady of Guadalupe and married at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. He co-owned a small business, Santana Sand and Gravel, with his father. After the death of his father, he continued to work as a heavy machine operator until he retired. He loved to read and enjoyed spending time nearly every day in the public library. He was happy to say that he has read every National Geographic magazine and yet never purchased one, thanks to the Cepeda library. He enjoyed driving around East Austin, in fact, his favorite saying was “We could go for a ride and get something to eat.” After he was no longer able to drive, he really enjoyed riding the Capital Metro bus system and “toured” all around Austin. He was a loving husband and father; truly dedicated to his family and his community. He will be greatly missed.
