Obituary of Monica Renee Gomez

Please share a memory of Monica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our Dearly Beloved Monica Renee Gomez, age 42, of Del Valle, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 12, 2017. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Angel Benavides; and her grandparents, Luciano and Connie Rivera, and Espirdion Arrellano. Monica is survived by her loving husband, Rudy Gomez; her beloved children, Amanda Denise Gomez (David), John Albert Hernandez (Mina), Rose Rodriguez, Gabriella Rodriguez, and Jose Rodriguez Jr.; her father, John Gomez, and his wife, Teresa; her step-sister, Monica Guerrero; her step-brother, Jesus Reyes; her precious grandson, Noah Gomez; and her grandmother, Antonia Gomez, as well as numerous other loving family and friends. Monica was a faithful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a great friend, and daughter. She followed in her mother's footsteps, and received her Medical Assistant Certification from Southern Careers Institute. She went on and had a lengthy career in the medical billing/records field. While being a working mom, Monica was very supportive of her children's activities. Then, the roles were reversed, and you found her on the kickball field, with the kids cheering her on from the sidelines, and Rudy as a coach. Her life felt complete with the birth of her grandson, Noah, in December 2015. Her world was then turned upside down with the diagnosis of Leukemia. Monica fought a courageous battle against this horrible disease for over a year, and though exhausted from her medical treatments, she still made it a point to see that her children and family had an enjoyable holiday. She touched many lives with her love for life, and has left a lasting impression and will be dearly missed. Never will we ever forget her. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Mission Funeral Home South. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Pall Bearers: James Arrellano, Jimmy Arrellano Jr., Johnny Ray Felan, Mark Jankins, Richard Martinez, Mike Soto, and Michael Villalpando Jr. Honorary Pall Bearers: Angie Cruz, Monica Guerrero, Gloria Suarez, Mikki Teneyuca, and Valerie Valenzuela. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Texas Oncology, and the St. David's South, 6th floor Cancer Unit.
