Obituary of Elida Montoya
Please share a memory of Elida to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elida "Lydia" Montoya, age 75, of Austin, TX, went to be with her Lord on 11th day of January, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Lydia was born on March 2, 1941, the daughter of Percy and Julia (Espinosa) Romo, in George West, TX.
She only married once, to Pete R. Montoya, Jr., on August 6, 1961, and bore him five children; Evelyn Montoya-Campos (Manuel Campos), Pete R. Montoya, III (Yvonne Bocanegra), Angie Montoya Gonzalez (Domingo Gonzalez), Carlos E. Montoya (Becky Kelley) and Mario Montoya (Mayra Idolisia Aguilar). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Olivia Benavidez, and her brother, Precillano Romo, Jr.
Lydia is predeceased by her parents, Percy and Julia Romo, her brother, Ignacio Romo, her sister, Seferina Romo Silva; her half-brothers, Juan, Manuel and Rudy Castro, and Rafael and Domingo Romo; her half-sisters Herlinda Castro Olivarez, and Paula Castro Vargas; her daughter-in-law Yvonne Bocanegra Montoya; and her grandson, Domingo Gonzalez, Jr.
Usually addressed as “Ms. Lydia”, she was known and loved by many, and was involved in her family and church, giving much of her life to sharing God’s word and counseling those in need. Known for her contagious happiness and her love of life, it was hard to tell what age she really was because she acted and looked so much younger than her years. She made friends wherever she went and would not hesitate to stop her day and pray with you if you needed it. Lydia opened her home up to many over the years, never giving any thought to lack of space or resources, but instead only to the needs of others. Her heart was a big as her appetite for life. Over her years of life, she met famous people, shook hands with politicians and lived a life with travel and experiences that many do not get to enjoy, and yet she was humble and kind beyond belief. Lydia was best known for her love of music. She had a beautiful and full voice and loved to sing. Music was part of her ministry as well as the sharing of God’s word. When she and her family were together, it was not uncommon for them to all sing for hours and laugh until they could hardly breath. Her laughter, love and joy will be missed immeasurably.
The Montoya family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited and prayed for Lydia. Thank you to Dr. Philip Woodall and his staff at Ministering Physicians, thank you to Resolutions Hospice for the wonderful care and we give our heartfelt thanks to the two most amazing and loving caretakers in Austin, Maria Gallegos and Ebeline Deleon for your constant care, sacrifice and love.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Montoya, Pete Montoya III, Mario Montoya, Manny Campos, Domingo Gonzalez, Mike Campos, Giovanni Gonzalez, and Matthew Montoya.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 with a Prayer Service being held at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
