Our beloved Mary H. Ruiz, age 82, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Monday, July 11, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Alejandra Herrera; and her son, Keith G. Ruiz. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, George Ruiz; her children, Shirley Cumby and her husband, Jerry, and Kenneth Ruiz and his wife, Cathy; her daughter-in-law, Bernadette; her sister, Suzi Guerra; seven grandchildren, Danielle (Nathan) Gibbs, Deidra (Dustin) Flugrath, Christopher Ruiz, Benjamin Ruiz, Matthew Ruiz, Alexander Ruiz, and Joshua Ruiz; and one great-grandchild, Jackson Gibbs; numerous other family and friends. Mrs. Ruiz was a dedicated teacher with the Austin Independent School District, retiring after 36 years; and a 40 plus year member of La Sertoma, where she served as International President from 1995-1996. She was an avid traveler, having visited Russia, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Ireland, London, Spain, Australia, Panama and all over South America. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, the entire family took a cruise together to Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, and St. Thomas; leaving out of Puerto Rico. Honored Pallbearers will be Adrian Ruiz, Matthew Ruiz, Thomas Baker, Steve Sifuentez, Nathan Gibbs, and Dustin Flugrath. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:00 a.m., San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
