Obituary of Ophelia Reyes Milicia
Please share a memory of Ophelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ophelia Reyes Milicia born August 17, 1917 was reunited with The Lord and loved ones on June 29, 2016 at the age of 98.
Ophelia Reyes Milicia was a lifetime resident of Austin, TX and devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, from baptism until death. She is preceded in death by parents Braulio and Sara Saucedo Reyes, husband Angelo Milicia, brothers Guadalupe Reyes and Braulio Reyes Jr, beloved brother LCpl Peter C Reyes (USMC,Vietnam), her sister and best friend Janie Aguilera, and children Robert Corona, Lawrence Milicia, and Mary Elizabeth Cantu.
Survivors include children Rose Synder(Bill,d.), Charles Corona(Virginia), Angelica Castro(Robert), Dorothy Renteria(Manuel), Angelo Milicia Jr, Michael Milicia, daughter-in-law Gloria Corona, son-in-law Edward Cantu, numerous Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, Great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Ophelia was a faithful servant to Jesus and honored the Blessed Mother with multiple rosaries daily. Faith carried her through a life filled with love and service to others. Her career began as a bilingual legal secretary, followed by a commissioner seat for Model Cities with her career ending in service to the Veterans Administration. Mrs. Milicia never learned to drive but was in the “driver’s seat” and always got to where she needed to be. Besides her love for coffee, sweets, chile and the Dallas Cowboys, her legacy and values are represented through her family who serves(d): The Church; Our Country through all branches of the U.S. Military; and local communities.
Mrs. Milicia welcomed everyone to her dining table where she reminded each person he was loved by God and by her. Her roses and memories of her porch swing on Canterbury Street remain; we will miss her visits, her counsel and most importantly, her unconditional love. “Thank you, Jesus” for the life and love of our beloved matriarch.
The family would like to thank Hospice Austin for their dedicated support to Mrs. Milicia and the entire family. Special thanks to her children Andy Milicia and Dorothy Renteria whose continual love and care allowed her to remain at home until her reunion with the Lord.
Rosary will be 7pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX. Funeral mass will be noon on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1206 E 9th St, Austin, TX followed by Christian burial at Assumption Cemetery.
