Obituary of Guadalupe Gonzales Gutierrez
Please share a memory of Guadalupe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Guadalupe G. Gutierrez, age 78, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 26, 2016.
She was born in Mercedes, Texas to Jose and Katherine Gonzales, who were migrant workers for a majority of her earlier life. Her family lived in South Texas until she was 14 years old, then the family moved to Eagle Lake, Texas. At the age of 16, she met the love of her life, Andrew Gutierrez. They later married on June 22, 1958. In 1960, their family started to expand with their first child and eventually ending with a total of four children throughout the years. In 1963, Andrew took a job working for a road construction company and the family moved from Eagle Lake. After a ten year string of temporary addresses throughout Texas due to the construction company, the family resided in Little River, Texas. This Central Texas area (Academy, Rogers, & Belton) is where the children finished their high school education. After Andrew’s passing in 1983, Guadalupe then moved to Austin, Texas. In 1984, Guadalupe began her life long career with the IRS. After 22 long and fulfilling years, she retired in 2006.
For anyone who spent any amount time with Guadalupe, could tell she was a strong, feisty, opinioned, humorous, and compassionate woman. These last couple of years seemed like the hardest for her and her family. Getting older and needing more personalized care, she was still fighting for life every day. In recent years, her feistiness really shined through. She would not take any guff from anyone! She also gave her opinion whether you asked for it or not. One great thing that one could always count on was laughter, whether it was yours or hers. She always enjoyed having a loud and joking time with anyone. Through her life’s ups and downs, she was always there for her family and anyone else. There were many times when she helped her children’s friends out with a place to stay, a hot meal, or just a heart to heart talk. She also took care of any extended family as if she were their parent.
Guadalupe did have quite a few loves in her life as well. She enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas because of her love for travel and the slot machines. Also, she did jump at any chance to play some bingo! No matter where she was, she always had yarn and her crochet needles either in hand or in a bag nearby. But her main love was family, from wanting everyone together for an event or one stopping by for a visit to always wanting photographs of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Guadalupe will continue to be loved, remembered, and truly missed by all of us.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Andrew Gutierrez; her parents, Jose and Katherine Gonzales; her grandson, Andrew Kitchings; and her sisters, Maria Rangel and Eva Cortez.
Guadalupe is survived by her loving children, Amanda Gutierrez Tovar, Andrew Gutierrez and his wife, Sherry, Adrian Gutierrez, Abigail Gutierrez Tilley and her husband, Rodney, and Tony Hernandez; eight grandchildren, Catherine Gutierrez and her husband, Bobby Garcia, Roxanne Gifford, Rosalind Love and her husband, Christopher, Rachel Tovar, Jeffrey Kitchings, Steven Gutierrez, and Meagan Gutierrez, and three great-grandchildren, Adonis Rivera, Hunter Gifford, Peyton Gutierrez; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
