Obituary of Frances Rodriguez Pena

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Frances R. Pena, age 73, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 10, 2016. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, sister and friend. She was a loyal woman with a generous heart and was a great support for her family. She held two occupations, early on as a certified nurses assistant for many years in Lubbock, Texas and then 17 years at Austin's own Callahan's General Store. Many of those familiar with Callahan's knew her best as "Frances the Chicken Lady." She truly enjoyed working there and made a family with her remarkable coworkers. Frances' life involved much of the outdoors, fishing and spending time with her chickens, ducks, geese, cats and dogs. She was an avid animal lover and savior. She enjoyed jewelry making, arts and crafts, reading, bowling, bingo, shopping and visiting casinos. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a strong woman with a caring heart and a great sense of humor. Her sly sarcasm, contagious laugh and helping hand will live on in the hearts of all she knew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Maria Rodriguez and 11 brothers and sisters. 5 Brothers; Tony Rodriguez, Thomas Rodriguez Jr., Ventura Benny Rodriguez, Guadalupe Rodriguez, and Bobby Rodriguez. 6 sisters, Kathryn Rodriguez, Rosie Rosendo, Theresa Pina, Mary Irene De Los Santos, Anna Jean Rodriguez, Margret Ann Rodriguez. Mrs. Pena is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Joe Pena, Sr.; her children, Michael (Joann) Pena, Lisa Pena, Joe (Tricia) Pena, Jr., and Desiree (David Whisner) Pena Young; Grandchildren, David (Krystal) Mercado Jr., John Thomas Mercado, Angel Flores, Sarah Mercado, Michael Anthony Pena, Rosie Pena, Julian Garcia, and Wyatt Strength; 5 great grandchildren, Benjamin Rivera, David Mercado III, Jaiden Flores, Alessandra Flores, and Delilah Mercado; Godchildren, Julie and Annalia Rodriguez.
