Obituary of Eleanor Winifred Nowick

Our beloved Eleanor Ruth Nowick, aged 95, was called by Our Heavenly Father, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Eleanor passed away peacefully, surrounded by members of her family, after a brief illness.

Eleanor was a resident of Austin, Texas and Charlotte, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Irene Ruth, and her husband, Chester Robert Nowick. She is survived by her two sons, Steven and Christopher, and her grandson, Nicolas.

Eleanor was born in New York City, on Saturday, October 9, 1920. She grew up in the Bronx, graduated from Evander Childs High School, and the Professional Business College of New York. For 12 years, she worked as a secretary for several Madison Avenue advertising agencies, ultimately becoming Executive Assistant for an agency director. She met her future husband, Chester, shortly after World War II, and on Sunday, October 12, 1952, they were married. They would have two sons, Steven and Christopher.

During the course of Chester and Eleanor’s 56 year marriage, they lived in New York City; Buffalo NY; Scarsdale, NY; Portsmouth, NH; Cinnaminson, NJ, and Charlotte, NC; raised two sons together; travelled extensively; and finally retired in 1988, to live on a lake in Mooresville, North Carolina. In 2005, Chet and Eleanor were blessed with a grandson, Nicolas, by their son, Christopher, and his wife, Zoia. Chester passed away in 2008, and Eleanor moved to Austin in 2010, to live with her son, Steven, and daughter-in-law, Debbie.

Our mother lived well, loved many and enjoyed her life. She was charitable and giving; doted on her family, children and grandson; and nurtured a strong faith all her life. She loved North Carolina and Texas, but missed New York City until the day she died. She will be missed greatly by her family and surviving friends.

At this time, Memorial Service information is pending. A Memorial Mass will be held for Mrs. Nowick, in Austin, Texas at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, and in Mooresville, North Carolina at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
