Our beloved Concepsion “Connie” B. Galvan, age 79, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 3, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Rodriguez; her son, Geronimo Castilleja, Jr.; daughter, Sharon Govea; her parents, John and Anita Galvan; and her brothers and sister, Esther Ponce, Clemente Ponce, John Galvan, and Charles Galvan. Many may not know, but as a teen, Connie was a country music singer, performing with Ms. Santos at the Broken Spoke. She was following in the foot steps of her father and uncle who also played country music locally. She work part time at Carl Meyers Jewelers on Congress in the gift wrapping department. She also worked at the ice cream shop on E. 2nd Street and as a seamstress at Economy Furniture. Finally once her family was raised, she became a State Certified nurse at the age of 40. Connie was a well-rounded woman who believed in family, hard working, and held her faith dear to her. Ms. Galvan is survived by her beloved children, Debbie Luna, Donald (Angela) Castilleja, and Henry (Connie) Castilleja; her son-in-law, Richard Govea; her brothers, John Ponce, Earl (Flo) Ponce and Tino Ponce; sisters, Ida (Joseph) Hernandez, Virginia Estrada, Mary (Richard) Vasquez and Janie Villalpando; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
