Obituary of Guadalupe Ojeda
Please share a memory of Guadalupe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Guadalupe Ojeda, age 82, resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, January 8, 2016.
Mr. Ojeda was born in Garfield, Texas on September 15, 1933. At a very young age he helped his family work in the cotton fields. In 1943, the Ojeda family moved to the Montopolis area of Austin, Texas. He met the love of his life while attending Colorado School. He married Lydia Calvo on July 31, 1953.
In addition to working a full-time job at Economy Furniture, he would work in the evenings perfecting his upholstery abilities, working exclusively for local interior designers. His work was greatly admired and appreciated; his work ethic was second to none. He personally put his whole heart into everything he did.
He held God above all else and paired with his work ethic, he and Lydia were soon able to start their own family business, The Upholstery Shop. The shop and Ojeda family are well known within the Austin community for providing quality workmanship and the ability to craft with exclusive fabrics. Before long, he was able to expand his business to offer custom built furniture and to begin serving Interior Design clients from all over the United States.
Mr. Ojeda is a devout Catholic and a long-time member of the San Jose Catholic Church parish where he spent many years as an usher and volunteer with the San Jose Jamaicas. Outside of his dedication to his faith and his craft, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and dancing. He loved his work, his family, God, and life. He never met a stranger and is well loved and respected within the Austin community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Felix and Lorenza Ojeda; his sister, Josephina Guerrero and brother, Amador Ojeda, Sr.
Guadalupe is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lydia; his beloved children, Armando and his wife, Elizabeth, Tommy and his wife, Brenda, Veronica and her husband, Manuel Jr., and Edgar Ojeda; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters, Ernestina Gaytan and her husband, Ponciano, Nieves Ojeda, Alvino Ojeda, Sr., Dan Ojeda, Sr. and his wife, Linda, and Josie Ruedas; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016, with Recitation of Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First Street. (South).
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Dr. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Hwy. 35, Austin, Texas.
