At home, surrounded by family, our loving mother, tender grandmother, kind friend and sister in Christ to us all, Alvina Amezquita Degollado, age 92, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 2:15 a.m. Her enterprising spirit and love of life led her to start a family at a young age. Her home was always filled with family and the aroma of tamales and Mexican hot cocoa. A native Austinite, Alvina’s love of birds was evident by the tender care she took in her own aviary. A long time employee of St. David’s Hospital, she cared for the equipment and instruments for Labor and Delivery and was a Care Provider for the Noack family even into retirement. Alvina was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. She attended South Apostolic Church where she served as an Elder and “Mother” to all. Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Refufia Amezquita; her husband, Johnny Degollado, her brothers Louis, Joe, Pepe, and Martin; her sisters, Sara, Helen, Josefa, Lydia, and Linda, and her son, Mike Molina, Sr. She is survived by her children, Josie and Miguel Mercardo, Alex and Carolyn Molina, Pat and James Calvin Luce, Lydia and Hussain Gouranlou, Aurelio and Matrina Molina, Jose and Claudia Molina, and Lorine and Rodolfo Sanchez, her daughter-in-law, Susan Molina, widow to her son, Mike Molina. Pallbearers for Alvina will be Abel Joe Rendon, Lance N. Cook, Arnulfo Sanchez, Michael Molina II, Michael Luce, Joel Hinojosa, Aurelio Molina, and Mathew Molina. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015, Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, at Mission Funeral Home Heritage Chapel. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
