Obituary of Leonardo Cuevas
Please share a memory of Leonardo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Leonardo ?Lee? Cuevas, age 89, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 7, 2001 after a courageous battle against cancer.Mr. Cuevas retired from L. East Produce in 1973 and truly enjoyed his golden years. Family gatherings were a great joy to him because he was surrounded by all of those he loved by example. This is his legacy to his family. Our father was very proud of his relationship with Cristo Rey Catholic Church and its history, and helped raise funds for the original church (currently the ?Escuelita?) and for the current church. He was preceded by his parents Leandro and Concepcion Cuevas, Brothers Joe Cuevas and Merced Cuevas and 8 brothers and sisters who passed away as children and his Son-in-law Wiley Guerrero. Survivors include: Beloved wife of 55 years; Frances S. Cuevas of Austin, Beloved Children; Teresa Estrada and husband Frank, Janie Gomez, Guadalupe Casarez, Louis L. Cuevas and wife Rita, and John Cuevas all of Austin, Sister; Georgia Martinez and husband Alex of Austin and Brother; Andrew Cuevas and wife Sarah. He was a father figure to two of his grandchildren; Terry Ann Casarez and David Guerrero as well as one of his 11 Great-Grandchildren Johnathan L. Casarez. He was also a wonderful grandfather to Gabriel L. Estrada, Cristina Kerbow, J.G. Gomez, Amy Pina, Cynthia G. Casarez, Luis Rafael Cuevas, Lisa Cuevas and Laura Cuevas. His beloved cockatiel ?YoYo?, will miss him dearly. Recitation of rosary Tuesday, 7:30pm at the Mission Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday 11:00am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. The Cuevas family extends their gratitude to Dr. Richard Helmer and Staff, Regina DosReis at ARA and especially our angel, Judy Williams, RN from the Circle of Life Hospice and their staff, our extended family and everyone for their love and prayers given to our beloved father during his illness. Serving as pallbearers are John Cuevas, Gabriel Estrada, David Guerrero, Luis Rafael Cuevas, J.G. Gomez, Rudy Casarez and Gilbert Martinez. There will always be a special place in our hearts for our beautiful Dad. We take comfort that he is now at peace with our Heavenly Father and in union with his departed family. ?Our Daddy was the steady rock and light in our lives, we will miss him dearly?. In Lieu of flowers we request that donations be made to Cristo Rey Catholic Church for the ?New Escuelita? fund. Arrangements by Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez, (512) 476-4355.
