I learned of Katie's passing several days ago and have tried several times to post a message but just haven't been able to do it.
Katie spent a lot of time with our family from when we first met her in grade school through high school. We had a nickname for her "George" originating from jokes about the movie George of the Jungle. She became "George" to us. We loved her. She called the house a few years ago. I am so thankful I got to speak with her. It was so fun to catch up.
Katie, our beloved "George" , was a huge presence in our life as the girls grew up. There are many photos of here and we will keep her in our hearts forever.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Katie's family.
With much love and heavy hearts,
Sara, Kurt, Marissa, and April Wilhelm

My heart is absolutely broken hearing this news. Katie was such an amazing person, and such an integral part of my childhood. My life wouldn't be the same without her. Whether we were at daycare riding bikes, roller blades, or just getting in another one of our famous "laugh attacks", we were always together. One of my favorite memories from that age was when we turned a large refrigerator box into a space ship, drawing all of the accurate controls inside and trying to stay in there all day. She was one of the few people who could always tolerate my high energy levels and was always willing to be imaginative with me. I still have a cassette that her and I recorded of the two of us singing to Elton John and just being the crazy little girls that we were, which cracks me up as much now as it did then. She is the main character of all of my childhood diaries; to me she was the funniest, coolest, caring and sweetest girl friend I could have had.
My deepest sympathies go out to her family. I will surely miss the presence of a truly remarkable friend.
