Linda Whiteman Martinez, 83, of Austin, Texas died peacefully, in her sleep, on the morning of August 6th, 2015. Linda was born on September 24, 1931, in Trinidad-West Indies, to Amelia and Augustine Whiteman. Determined to make a better life and provide a better education for her children, she moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1969.
She was a strong spirited and determined woman, who valued education and took advantage of every opportunity that came her way. She was fiercely dedicated to the education of her children and encouraged all to follow their dreams.
Linda was last employed by Eastern Airlines and made use of this opportunity to travel. After 17 years of service, she retired and filled her time with activities that she loved: cooking, gardening, sewing, and traveling. It wasn't until 1994 that she moved to Austin, TX, where most of her children and grandchildren lived.
Linda was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren were fond of her baking and cooking. She was fashionable and enjoyed dancing.
She is survived by her four children; Wayne Alexander, Patricia Wallace (Victor), Gregory Whiteman, and Ann Marie Whiteman, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers and three sisters; Milton Whiteman (Ann), of Canada; Hugo (Viki) Whiteman, of Washington, DC; Wilson Whiteman, of Brooklyn, NY; Wallace Whiteman, of Maryland; Raymond Whiteman and Leslie Whiteman, of Trinidad-West Indies; Molina Whiteman, of Maryland; Gloria Scott (Tony), of Maryland; Vina Lockhart, of Canada. She is preceded in death by her parents Amelia and Augustine Whiteman, four children, and eleven siblings.
The Whiteman family would like to thank the staff of South Park Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center; 4 North Nurses, at Seton Medical Center; and Christopher House.
