Our beloved Mack Martinez, Sr., age 92, resident of Austin was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 21, 2000. Mr. Martinez was preceeded in death by the Mother of his children Mamie Martinez, Daughter Lena Pacheco, 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters.Mr. Martinez was an ex-boxer and professional wrestler and a lifetime Democrat. His favorite hobby was creating plaster castings which sold in the hundreds. His Accomplishments include 22 year member and former President of Greater East AustinOptimist, former President of East Austin Lions Club, former President of Pan Am Recreation Center Board, original member of LULAC and a 28 year member of Texas Public Employees Assn.. Survivors include: Wife; Sylvia E. Martinez, of Austin, Son; Mack Martinez, Jr., and wife Vera, Daughters; Janie M. Sosa, Virginia Garza and husband Mike both of Austin and Sylvia Garcia and husband Louis of Lockhart, TX., Brothers; Pete Martinez and Matt Martinez and wife Janie both of Austin, Sister; Lena Verastique of Austin. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Granchildren. Recitation of rosary was Friday at the Mission Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday 9:00am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mack Martinez III, Ernest Martinez, Roy Sosa, Xavier Sosa, Michael Garza and Eric Garcia.
