Simon Castillo Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Simon Castillo, age 89 born in Kyle, Texas, passed away peacefully into the arms of our lord on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
Simon, a Korean War Disabled Veteran served in the Army in North Africa, Tunisia, Sicily, and Italy. After his service, he was employed by the Austin Independent School District as a Building Maintenance Supervisor at Porter Middle School where he retired after 25 years of devoted service. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Connie Sanchez Castillo, sons, Daniel Castillo and David Castillo, daughter, Stephanie Saenz and her husband Marc, grandson, Marc Saenz, granddaughter, Ashley Saenz and half brother, Beltran Castillo. Simon was a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather to his family.
It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone Part of us went with you The day God called you home Your precious memories are for Keepsakes with which we will never part. God has you safely in his keeping But we have you forever in our hearts.
Serving as pallbearers are Marc Saenz, Thomas Castillo, Eddie Castillo, Richard (Rico) Hernandez, Luke Sanchez, and Richard Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers are Luis Cavazos, Jacob Castillo, and John Caballero.
The family extends their gratitude to caregivers Beatriz Gonzalez, Juanita Rodriguez, Judy Martinez, Reyna Vergara and Rosa Garza for the loving care they provided to Simon. Also a heartfelt thank you to Mary Mendoza of San Jose Church, the staff at the VA Home Base Primary Care, Gilead Healthcare, and Christopher House for all they have done.
Family will receive friends beginning at 6:30 pm; and the recitation of the rosary will follow at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 1st at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First St. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 2rd at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery with military honors.
The family would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to join them for a gathering and a meal at San Jose Catholic Church Community Center following the burial.
