Virginia Mae Gibbons 1940-2011 Our beloved Virginia Mae Gibbons, age 70, resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 18, 2011. Virginia was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a B.A. in Sociology which led to her career as a probation officer and open records officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Parole Division. After retiring with the State she began a second career as a substitute teacher with the Austin Independent School District. She loved working with both elementary school students and the child care centers in the district. She is remembered by friends and family as smart, sincere, loving, funny, loyal-everything a friend could be. She is survived by her daughter Leigh Ann Shannon and son-in-law Loren Garth Shannon; granddaughter Kara Larissa Shannon; sister Patsy Kay Smith and nephew Dale Bruce Smith. She was preceded in death by her father L.H. (Sam) Bell; mother Ethel Mae Luckett Bell and sister Betty Sue Bell. Visitation 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. (South). Funeral Service 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel. This will conclude services for Ms. Gibbons. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Virginia to the Austin Children?s Shelter 4800 Manor Road Austin, Texas 78723.
