Janie Martinez SosaJanie Martinez Sosa was born December 6, 1931. She was 79 years old, preceded in death by husband, Chris Sosa, parents, Mack G. and Nellie Martinez, and sister, Lena Pacheco. Janie is survived by her brother Mack G. Martinez II and wife Vera; sisters Virginia Garza and husband Mike, Sylvia Garcia and husband Louis; four sons, Xavier and wife, Wilma, Roy Sosa, David Sosa, Rick and wife, Donna. She was also loved and admired by her eight grandchildren, Celina Makinsi, Isaac and Blake Sosa, Christopher and Brandon Sosa, Amber and husband, Clayton Barnett, Eric and Stephen Sosa. Janie?s great-grandchildren are Allura Sosa; Andrew Sosa and Jace Sosa. Janie graduated from Austin High School in 1949 and retired from the Department of Human Services after 28 years of dedicated service. Words can not express the devotion given and enjoyment received from volunteering at the South Austin Senior Citizen Center and San Jose Catholic Church. She enjoyed many activities but particularly dancing, watching her boys play baseball, playing dominos, and crocheting. She had the gift of gab and was a remarkable storyteller. She was an avid bowler and taught her sons to appreciate the game. Family and education were extremely important to her. She loved spending time around her four sons and inspired them to pursue degrees in higher education. The family extends their gratitude to Angel Heart Hospice and the nurses and staff at Carestone Assisted Living Center for the loving care and support they provided to Janie. Recitation of Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
