Joe Limon Avila was born April 14, 1929 in Austin, Texas and was called home to the Lord on January 9, 2011, he was 81 years old. He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father Sophia and Florentino De La?O and his brother Fernando Avila. He is survived by his Wife of 56 years Pauline, his Daughters Rose Maciel, Husband Robert, Carolina, his Grandchildrern Regina Estrada, Husband Felipe, Robert Maciel, Jr., his Great-Granddaughters Izabella and Evalina Sophia Estrada, his sisters Josephine Cavazos and Hilda Lovern, and a host of extended family.
Joe Avila was a Korean War Veteran. He was proud of his country and honored to have served in the United States Army. He was a reciepient of the Purple Heart for his service in the Korean War. His most beloved legacy was his business, Joe?s Bakery & Coffee Shop. Joe dedicated his life to his childhood dream of becoming a restaurant owner. He proved that with hard work and perserverance anything is possible. He loved his family and his heritage. Joe believed strongly in giving back to the community and always remembered the neighborhood where he came from. He was a prankster and love to make people laugh. Joe enstilled strength in his family and raised his girls to endure the joys and hardships of life. God and family came first in his life and played a strong role in the way he raised his family. He lived a full and blessed life and was surrounded by his girls until the end. His family would like to thank Dr. Thomas McMinn and the staff at Austin Heart Hospital for their excellent care they provided throughout the years. The recitation of the Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 East 2nd Street. Burial immediately following in Assumption Cemetery.
