Jose Selvera Soliz was born June 6, 1918 in Bastrop, Texas. He was one of 13 children born to the union of Florencio and Dorotea Selvera Soliz. With his family at his bedside, he passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of October 28, 2000. In 1961, he married the widowed, Santos Ortiz Lopez, and was blessed to welcome her son Joseph O. Lopez as his own. They were later blessed with two daughters, Mary Louise and Mary Catherine. In 1970, Jose and Santos lovingly added another son, Arthur Gutierrez to their family. He crafted and repaired jewelry and was employed by R.K. Lewis Jewelry Manufacturing for 38 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother. His friendships spanned many years and his former co-workers, friends and family helped enlighten his days during his illness. His parents, an infant brother, and brothers, Manuel, Lupe, Abel and Ysidoro, preceded Jose in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Santos (Sandra) Ortiz Soliz; children and spouses, Joseph O. and Josie Lopez, Mary Louise and Agustin Flores, Mary Catherine (Cathy) and Peter Walton, Arthur O. Gutierrez; grandchildren, Joseph James Lopez, Rosalinda Vega and Jacob, Javier Felipe Lopez, David Flores, Beatrice Flores, Albert Flores, Caitlyn Marie Walton; great-granddaughter, Marrisa Sandra Vega, brothers and sisters; Clara Coy, Eugene Soliz and Frances, Frances Gutierrez, Victor Soliz, Florencio Soliz, Mary Soliz, Avilio Soliz, Sisters in-law; Esther Soliz, Maria Acevedo and Jesus, Dora Tristan and Genoveva Ortiz. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. All who knew him will dearly miss Jose. The family wishes to thank Rose Walls, RN, Hospice Austin and the numerous friends and family who never forgot Jose and his family during his difficult illness. Recitation of rosary Monday, 7:30pm at the Mission Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 12pm at Dolores Catholic Church. Reverend Father John Korcsmar C.S.C will officiate. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers are his grandchildren, nephews and friends of the family.
