Sylvester E. Romo 1947- 2010 Our beloved Sylvester E. Romo, age 62, resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 22, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his father Cruz Romo, Sr; sister Flora Eureste; and brothers Enrique Romo and Johnny Romo, who passed away just three weeks ago.
Sylvester is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ruby G. Romo; sons Sylvester Romo, Jr., Michael A. Romo; daughter Gidget Herrera and husband Edward; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother Seferina E. Romo; brothers Cruz Romo, Jr.; Ezekiel Romo, and Samuel Romo; and sisters Guadalupe Rivera, Gloria Esparza, and Lidia Romo; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Sylvester, you were the mighty tree of the family. Your strength and love protected and nurtured not only your immediate family but also the whole extended Romo family. You will continue to be the model to the family; when we need an example of virtue, humility, hard work, responsibility, and love for family and God?we will remember you.
As a young man at University Junior High and Austin High School in the 1960s, he was given the nickname of ?Silver? because of his speed as one of the top track stars in the city and the state?winning ribbons and medals throughout the state and the Texas Relays at UT. He loved his sports and his fishing. He was a successful businessman in the insurance field for some forty years, and with his wife and two sons, a part of the South Austin community.
Recitation of Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First Street. The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are, Oscar Romo, Gus Calvo, Steve Morris, David De La Cruz, Benjamin Romo, and Robert Ferguson. Honorary pallbearer will be Jonathan Calvo.
