Obituary of Amanda Hancock

Amanda Kay Shaw Hancock passed away February 11th, 2010, age 36. Born August 14th, 1973, she was diagnosed at age five with diabetes. She fought a lengthy and courageous battle these past few years with numerous complications of diabetes.Amanda graduated from Dripping Springs High School in 1991. She worked for a number of years at Riverbend Church as an administrative assistant, participating in several ministries.
Amanda is survived by her devoted husband Shawn Syms, daughters Ashleigh Symone Hancock, and Shawn Mika Lee Syms of Austin, her sisters Alecia Shaw of Austin, and Glenda Higgins, husband Anthony and nieces Katie and Emily of Ireland, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loving friends. Amanda was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Gay Shaw of Dripping Springs.
The family wishes to convey thanks to all of Amanda?s health providers and especially Henry, Rachel and staff at the South First Dialysis Clinic; as well as Jennifer at South Austin Hospital ICU. In lieu of flowers a fund has been established for her daughters Ashleigh Hancock and Mika Syms at A+ Federal Credit Union, under the custodial care of Shawn Syms. Memorial Services will be held at Riverbend Church, 4214 Capital of Texas Hwy N., on Thursday February 18th, at 2:30 pm.
