Nicolasa "Nicky" Navarette went to meet her Heavenly Father at age 77. Her sunrise began in Austin, TX, on May 29, 1932; resided in Elgin, Texas for most of her life, which ended with her sunset on October 2, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Maria SantaAna.Her career included working as a dispatcher for the Elgin Police Department as well as working for Meyer's Sausage in Elgin. She was also a 28-year employee of the University of Texas at Austin while simultaneously working for the Scottish Rite Dormitory. She was a devout catholic and graceful humanitarian dedicated to serving our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She had many interests and hobbies, but of those interests, her profound love for music and singing superceded them all. Friends and family fondly referred to her as "La Paloma Del Norte" graciously singing at any event or opportunity that presented itself. She had many friends and family whom she affectionately loved and cared for in many ways. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Hurst and husband Dale; son, Robert J. Gonzales and wife Lupe; grandchildren, Pedro Reyes III and wife Julie, Barbara D. Reyes, Terrie Elkins and husband, Dr. Louis Elkins, Paul R. Reyes and wife Cynthia, Elisa Chamberlain and husband Vance, Elena Dillion and husband Yancy, Christina, Angela, Joseph and Lisa Marie Almanza, and Robert M. Gonzales. She had 20 great-grandchildren; and 3 great- great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers, Frank (and wife Della) SantaAna, Joe SantaAna; and sister, Alice Navarro. Pallbearers will be Ben Cobos, Michael Savedra, Robert Martinez, Jacob and Aaron Reyes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Hurst, Pedro Reyes III, and Vance Chamberlain. On October 5, 2009, viewing will be held from noon until 7:00 p.m. Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home on 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St. Celebration of Life Mass will be followed on October 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1206 E. 9th St. Interment immediately follows at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Special thanks to Dr. Paolo Veneoni, Dr. Lewis King, and the ICU nursing staff at St. David's NAMC for the excellent care given to Nicolasa.
