Obituary of Angelo Borrero
Please share a memory of Angelo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Angelo Luis Borrero 1933-2009Angelo Luis Borrero, age 75, of Austin passed away surrounded by his family on June 6, 2009 after a courageous and valiant battle with liver disease and heart failure complication. His family takes great comfort that he has joined his beloved wife Cruz Borrero on what would have been their 56th wedding anniversary. Angelo was the only child of Maria Santiago and Angel Cruz Borrero born on December 12, 19 33 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. He valued education and graduated valedictorian from Juan Morel Campos High School in Puerto Rico. Angelo left for New York in 1950 to join and proudly serve the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1960 eventually transferring to Austin, Texas and reaching the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1989. Angelo met the love of his life Maria Cruz Aleman while stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. They were married and started their family of 6 children in 1953. The Aleman family welcomed and embraced Angelo as " El Puertoriqueno ". As a very social couple they danced many nights away at Charlie's Playhouse, The Villa Capri, The Commodore Perry and many NCO activities on the Air Force Base. Angelo never met anyone who didn't become a friend of which he had many. He always had a joke for every occasion, always the comedian he kept all of us smiling?.Oh how he loved life, even joking in the emergency room while checking in for the last time. The most difficult period in Angelo's life was on June 14, 1973 when his beloved wife Cruzita passed away suddenly at the age of 36. He was left to raise 5 children at home alone. Only God knows how lonely Angelo must have felt during this time. He stayed committed and faithful to Cruzita's memory, never remarrying. He was always working two or more jobs to support and provide for all of his family. He retired from The City of Austin Brackenridge Hospital after more than 30 years of outstanding service. Angelo included humor in all of life's obstacles, helping him along the role of being a wonderful father, grandfather, and eventually great-grandfather. He was a man who unconditionally loved and treasured all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren never denying anyone anything he could offer. He kept the love of dancing all his life especially salsa dancing. He cherished spending time in the garden, loved animals, and had a passion for Puerto Rican food. Angelo's sport of choice was Football. He especially enjoyed his favorite teams the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Angelo had a love of all things Austin offered, but was always ready to travel to "La Isla Bonita" for the sweet smells of home, Puerto Rico. He was preceded in death by his wife Cruz Aleman Borrero; his parents, Maria and Angel Borrero; mother & father- in- law Sofia and Miguel Aleman; and brothers- in- law Refugio, Eloy and Mike Jr. Aleman; and his beloved grandson Alberto Borrero.
