Obituary of Norma Haberstroh

We Miss You, Norma Our beloved "Dancing Queen", Norma, Passed away on 4 January 200. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) C. Haberstroh.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ludford, Lois Stritzinger and husband Dave, five grandchildren, Brian Ludford and wife Tamara, Cheryl Stritzinger, Charles Stritzinger, Kathlyn Stritzinger, Kevin Stritzinger and wife Stephanie. Survivors also include 5 great grandchildren, William, Frederick, Timothy, Sarah, and Chris, plus 3 great great grandchildren.
Born in Buffalo, NY on May 24, 1918, she met her husband to be in New Jersey where, after a short courtship they married in 1936. Dick worked for the Immigration Service, and, after several moves, they settled in El Paso where he retired as District Director.
The couple became very involved in the bridge scene being instrumental in developing the El Paso bridge center. Norma became a Silver Life Master and enjoyed encouraging and playing with new players. Norma loved traveling. She flew to Germany when her first grandchild, Cheryl, was born, then on to Italy. Norma and Dick drove to Mexico to watch their grandson, Brian, compete in the Baja 500 offroad race. The couple visited Canada, Puerto Rico and Hawaii. With her daughter Carol, grandson Brian and wife Tamara,Norma went on a Hawaiian and Alaskan cruise followed later by a 3 week trip to Italy and Sicily at age 89. For 12 years she went with her family to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vierta, Mexico. Norma moved to Austin 5 years ago where she met a gentleman and magician, Alan Fox. They were wonderful companions and would talk about things only those from their generation would know about. Norma was continually amazed when Alan taught her grandson, William, the art of magic. She loved watching William with grandpa Dave perform.
Norma was nicknamed "Dancing Queen" by Jim Chamberlain and the Railroad Bluegrass Gang. She loved dancing to her favorit son, "I'll Fly Away"!
Visitation, Friday, 23 January 2009, will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First Street, Austin, Texas. Funeral Service Saturday 24 January 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church with a celebration of life reception to follow. Pall Bearers are Brian Ludford,Charles Stritzinger, Kevin Stritzinger, Timothy Stritzinger, Christopher Mays, and William Whisennand. Burial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, 27 January in El Paso. Norma will be placed to rest with her husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norma's memory may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 10,000 David Moore Road, Austin, Texas 78748.
