Berta F. Alvarez June 6, 1934 ? September 28, 2008 Berta was born in La Feria, Texas on June 6, 1934 to Teodoro and Juanita Fernandez. She passed away on September 28, 2008, after a very short battle with cancer. Berta grew up in La Feria and moved to Austin in 1965. While in Austin, she was employed by Seton Hospital, Tally-Ho, and retired with QUIX (Mini Mart) convenience store. Berta was one of thirteen children. She is survived by sisters Carmen Lozano of Round Rock, Fina Castillo and husband Alberto of Copperas Cove, Bea Archibeque and husband Val of Bryan, Celia Escobedo and husband Chris of Ingleside, Maggie Dominguez and husband Gilbert of Taylor; brothers Roberto Fernandez of Austin, Sam Fernandez and wife Esther of Tomball, Santiago Fernandez and wife Gloria of Harlingen, Rudy Fernandez and wife Delia of California; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Baudelio (Sonny) Alvarez Jr.; parents Teodoro and Juanita Fernandez; two brothers Alfredo and Teodoro Fernandez Jr.; sister Consuelo Prado. Berta?s life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters and her many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all of her family. Mass of Christian Burial 11::00 a.m., Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 1206 E. Ninth Street. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery 3650 South IH-35. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Berta?s sister Bea and her family for taking care of her in her final months. Heartfelt gratitude and appreciation are also extended to Southern Care Hospice of Bryan.
