Obituary of Margaret Sanders

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Zarilda Stinson Burnham Sanders March 18, 1917 ? July 16, 2008 (Babu) Margaret Sanders (known affectionately by all of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as ?Babu?) was born March 18, 1917 in Friona, TX to Bertha Stinson and Henry Squire Burnham. Following in her father?s footsteps, Margaret trained and rode thoroughbred American Saddle Horses in dressage competitions in Tyler, TX for many years until she moved to Austin to work in the Secretary of State?s Office. There she met C.P. Sanders, whom she married on May 30, 1941. Margaret and C.P. owned Sanders Cash Lumber Company and in addition to running the lumberyard they together built several small homes and duplexes that they rented and eventually sold. It was not unusual to see Margaret climbing ladders, nailing boards, painting, and finally landscaping these homes. Margaret and C.P. were very active in Asbury United Methodist Church and she was a valued and longtime member of the Texas Extension Education Association. Margaret was preceded in death by C.P. in 1999. Her survivors include her daughter, Katherine (Kay) Martin of Austin, and son, James Sanders (wife Cecile) of San Marcos. The pride of her life were her grandchildren, Wade Perkins, Christie Perkins Buratti, Karen Perkins, and Matthew Sanders (wife J.C.), all of Austin, Lori Sanders Maus (husband Greg) of Canyon Lake, and Dr. Clayton Sanders (wife Cortney) of Dallas. Great-grandchildren include Robert John Buratti, Micah Rae Sanders, and AnnMarie Sanders, all of Austin; Larissa and Nathan Maus of Canyon Lake; and Abigail Sanders of Dallas. Her family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Carestone Assisted Living in Austin, who cared for Margaret for the past six years with compassion, and to Hospice of Austin, especially Laverne Lehman. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21st at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1605 E. 38 ®. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to Hospice of Austin (www.hospiceaustin.org) or PAWS of Austin (www.pawsofaustin.org).
