Celestina "Sally" Perales Gutierrez April 6, 1914 - July 4, 2008Celestina ?Sally? Perales Gutierrez passed on July 4, 2008 at the age of 94 years. She was born to Francisco Perales and Clara Sustaita on April 6, 1914. She was born at Hunters Bend near Weberville, Texas, where she was raised and picked cotton in her younger years. She was an avid dancer and loved to crochet in her younger life. She was also a dedicated gardener and loved her flowers. Her family enjoyed spending many holidays with her and enjoying the delicious tamales that she loved to make for them all. Celestina will be remembered as a very strong woman who during her life accomplished many things and had a strong faith in God. Sally Gutierrez was a parishioner at San Jose Catholic Church since the parish was created and the church built in the late 1930?s. As a Guadalupana at San Jose Catholic Church she was a committed fundraiser and active worker in all their social and charitable endeavors. She also was retired from the Austin Independent School District. She was preceded in death by her parents; infants Lucio Gutierrez and Maria Magdalena Gutierrez; former husband Gabriel Gutierrez, Sr.; sons Thomas Gutierrez and Marcelino Gonzales; grandson Frankie Cantu Aleman; granddaughter JoAnn Gutierrez; brother Mencho Perales and sister Trinidad Quesada. Survivors include sons Guadalupe Gonzales, Gabriel Gutierrez, Jr. and wife Connie V. Gutierrez; daughters Nancy Aleman and husband Ben Aleman, Flora Saenz and husband Hector Saenz and Vera Gonzales and husband Delfino Juarez. She leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 51 great-great grandchildren. Recitation of Holy Rosary 6:00 p.m. Sunday July 6, 2008 at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. (South). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Monday July 7, 2008 at San Jose Catholic Church 2435 Oak Crest Avenue. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers Gilbert Gutierrez Perez, Adam Gonzales, Roel Saenz, Sonny Garcia, Jonathan Gutierrez and Frank Cervantes. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Louis Juarez, Randy Ortega, Lucio Gonzales, Jesse Gonzales, Anita Cervantes, Teresa Gutierrez , Diana Gutierrez and David Aleman. The family wishes to extend special thanks to her doctors Carlos Gray and Pete Garcia who administered kind care to her. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to your favorite charity in her honor.
