Obituary of Ida Salas

Please share a memory of Ida to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ida Davis Salas, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on June 7, 2006 at the age of 87. She was born on Oct. 11, 1918 to Tony and Mary Anthony Davis in Robeline, LA and was the last surviving member of the Davis family. When she was three years old the family moved to Corpus Christi where they spent some of the hardest years picking cotton during the Great Depression. In the early 1930?s the family moved to Austin and she later started her own family. Because most of the men were off fighting in WW II she was hired to sand cars. She later worked in the laundry business for several years. In 1959 she quit working to take care of her mother who was terminally ill. She relied on two of her sons and most of all, on God, to provide. For 19 years she worked for the Austin Independent School District as a food preparer. But her greatest service and sacrifice was always for her children. She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church for 20 years and had many friends there. She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings and half siblings and by one daughter, Delores Saenz. Mrs. Salas is survived by her son, Earl Moreno and wife, Norma; son, Nash Lopez and wife, Olga; daughter, Anne Lee Guzman; son, Julian Lopez and wife, Ramona; son, Lee Roy Lopez and wife, Helen; and son, Ralph Sanchez. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and their families. Evening Prayer Services, Friday at 7:30pm, Remembrance Chapel-Mission Funeral Home(Cesar Chavez). Mrs. Salas will lie in state at 1:00am Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, 300 E. Monroe St., with Funeral Services commencing at 2:00pm, Pastor John Stennfeld to officiate. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Gracy Woods II Nursing Center and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care of mom in her last days. And thank you to the many friends and family members that visited her and prayed for her constantly. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Mrs. Salas? memory to Christ Lutheran Church, 300 E. Monroe, Austin, TX 78704.
