Our beloved angel, Tara Rose McAvoy, was called upon by God, on Monday, March 13, 2006.Our beloved angel, Tara Rose McAvoy, was called upon by God, on Monday, March 13, 2006. She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, grandniece and friend. We are left with unspeakable grief. Born July 17, 1987 in Worcester Massachusetts, Tara attended the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf on the campus of Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. As an honor student, Tara was involved in many school activities. She was elected both Student Body Secretary and President. Tara loved all kinds of sports and cheerleading. Tara?s lifelong goal was learning and that passion and enthusiasm landed her in Who?s Who Among American High School Students. Her favorites were art and drama. She performed in several productions in her short life. She constantly challenged herself to ever higher accomplishments. She marched in the cheerleading parade in London,England, she participated in the youth leadership camp in Florida and traveled most of the United States. She earned a scholarship to attend Presidential classroom week at the White House in Washington, D.C. and then served an internship at the National Association of the Deaf. Among her many achievements, she served as Miss Pre-Teen South Texas of 1999 at the American Coed Pageant among hearing girls. Out of 105 hearing girls, Tara came in 13th place at the Coed nationals, held in Orlando, Florida. At the time of her passing, Tara was the reigning Miss 2005- 2007 Deaf Texas. She performed her duties with grace and dignity. She would have expected no less from herself. Tara was a sunshine, a special beautiful child, remembered for her sparkling eyes and dimpled smile. All of those touched by her, will forever be changed, challenged and better people for having known her. A Visitation will be held Friday 12:00 p.m. thru 9:00 p.m. The McAvoy family will formally receive friends from 7p.m. thru 9p.m. at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel (6204 South First Street).
