Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend Domingo Lopez Villela, age 69, passed away peacefully at the Christopher House surrounded by family on Wednesday February 22, 2006 in Austin, TX. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend Domingo Lopez Villela, age 69, passed away peacefully at the Christopher House surrounded by family on Wednesday February 22, 2006 in Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by mother Victoria Lopez Villela, father Dimas Billela, brothers Francisco and George Villela, sisters Dominga and Julia Villela.
Mingo was a strong man, a leader to all. Always welcoming people with open arms. His love of music, cooking and baseball made way for him to tell wonderful stories of his past that will always be kept and cherished in everyones heart. But above everything was his love for his wife, children and family. Along with his wife he was the lead singer for his conjunto band at their Happy Days Lounge No. 2. He has gone to heaven to be the lead singer for our dear Lord, but the music he shared with us will always live in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Janie Escalante Villela; children #1 Judy Poorbaugh, #2 Christine Heath and husband Bill; #3 Belle Villela Sanchez and husband Marcos, #4 John Edward Villela and wife Linda,#5 Armanda Martinez; grandsons Michael Poorbaugh and wife Valerie, Christopher Poorbaugh, William Heath II, Juan Anzures II, Andres Martinez; granddaughters Sarah Sanchez, Jaime Anzures, Jessica Telles, Dominga Heath, Analicia and Alejandra Robledo, Andrea Martinez; great granddaughters Priscilla and Arianna Poorbaugh; Honorary daughter Elisa Sandoval; brothers Evaristo Villela and wife Esperanza of Lubbock, TX., Andres (Jap) Villela, Memo Villela and wife Virgie, Johnny Villela and wife Tina, Pat McNamara and wife Clara; sisters Linda Garcia, Teresa (Terry) Ybarra and husband Gilbert, Mary Machado and husband Roy, Julie Villarreal. Over 500 much loved nieces and nephews from the Villela and Escalante families; sisters & brothers-in-laws, God Children and friends.
Recitation of rosary Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel (south). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Rev. Jesse Euresti will officiate. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Poorbaugh, Christopher Poorbaugh, William Heath II, Juan Anzures II, Johnny Villela Jr. and Eugene Guzman Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Andres Martinez , Bobby Villela, Gilbert Villela, Santiago Garcia, Christopher Villela, Rudy Villela, Roy Machado Jr., Joey Ybarra, Ruben Villarreal, Antonio Gonzales Jr., Antonio Guzman, Frank Garza Jr., Ben Bedell, Ray Escalante, Joseph Posada, Steve Escalante, Jesse Escalante and Johnny Sandoval Jr.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude towards Hospice Austin Christopher House, Brackenridge ICU & Emergency staff and the good Samaritans at Kreig Field.
