Mrs. Saavedra began teaching 31 dedicated years ago in Lubbock, TX. In 1974, Maria moved to Austin with her husband Eddie, where she taught in the Austin Independent School District until her retirement May of 2002. She touched the lives of many students and will be remembered as wonderful teacher. She is survived by beloved husband of 31 years Edward Saavedra; her two sons, Brian and Alan Saavedra; mother, Reyes Gonzales of Levelland, TX; sisters, Andrea Trevino of Napels, Fl, Frances Trevino of Sundown, TX, Sylvia Robson of Germany; brothers, Jose of Sundown, TX and Jesse Gonzales of Levelland, TX. Recitation of rosary will be held Monday, 7:30 pm at the Mission Funeral Home The New Serenity Chapel (South). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 am at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, Buda, TX. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Simon Moya, Jose Pruneda, Nick Gonzales, Adam Gonzales, Ismael Trevino, Jr., David and Rudy Rodriguez
