Obituary of Margaret Scruton Richardson

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Scruton Richardson passed peacefully March 27 th in Austin Texas after suffering a stroke. She and her family had been on a long journey with her dementia. Born February 9, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kansas, where her family moved for her father’s work during the depression. At the age of two her family returned to Arlington. Margaret remembered life in Arlington as a wonderful time of family and discovery. Her family was large and multi-generational, grandmother, great grandmother, mother, father and four siblings living on Cooper Street with a garden, chickens, a cow and an orchard. Her other grandparents lived down the road. She loved waking up early, sneaking out and going to visit her grandmother Vandaveer. She loved the quiet time with her. She and her siblings returned to Arlington to attend their Arlington High School Reunions where they caught up with old and dear friends and remembered the great times. After completing Junior College, she moved to Austin where she lived for more than 65 years collecting friends, growing family, and building a career. Her early career was with Texas Employment Commission, Austin National Bank, Texas State Legislature, Texas Jeweler’s Association and Texas Retail Association. She chose to complete her undergraduate degree and enrolled at UT as a SOTA (Student Older Than Average) which she was very proud of. She earned a degree in Journalism while working for UT’s News and Information Services. Later she received her Association Executive Certification and continued her career as Executive Director of the Texas Psychological Association. Finding it hard to just retire, she worked again for the state and for a church office. In all of her jobs she enjoyed creating publications, organizing events and growing membership. She loved poetry, reading, film, playing cards, fishing, working, her family and friends. She would have told you being a mom and grandma was her best work. She read to, played with, explored with and loved us all. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Youngquist, her husband W S Richardson, parents William and Theo Scruton, siblings, Sally, Ann, David and Jane, sister-in-law, Meg Roehrig. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanna and John Caballero, grandchildren Jacquelyn and Natalie Caballero, Elizabeth Hennig Alahtab (children Aya and Rayan), Victoria Hennig Galvan (husband, Juan and son, Krowley) and Michael Youngquist, many nieces and nephews and, her dear friend, Karen Kamerschen. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 May 4, 2024, at University Presbyterian Church, 2203 San Antonio Street, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers her family asks that you make contributions to AGE Services of Central Texas
